Genealogy report delivery times 2026

Delivery time depends almost entirely on the authorities — not the service provider. EVL regional registries typically deliver in 2–3 weeks, DVV in 2–6 weeks. This article covers realistic wait times and how to start the process quickly.

Delivery times by authority

EVL — regional registry

2–3 weeks

Typical processing time. May take longer during busy periods.

DVV

2–6 weeks

Varies by workload. Electronic registry is faster than digitised material.

Orthodox Church

2–6 weeks

Central registry processing time varies.

National Archives

Varies

May take several weeks or months depending on the age and availability of records.

Estate inventory has a deadline: Estate inventory must be completed within three months of death. Start ordering the genealogy report as soon as possible — authorities take time, and there is no way to speed up their processing.

What affects delivery time?

Number of registry keepers

If the genealogy report must be ordered from multiple registries — for example, two parishes and DVV, the total time is determined by the slowest one. The report can only be delivered once all documents have been received.

Time period

Records from the electronic registry (after 1 October 1999) are delivered faster than digitised archival material. If the deceased was born before the 1940s, documents may need to be located in physical archives.

Season

During holiday periods (summer and Christmas), processing times may be longer due to reduced staffing.

Order accuracy

If an order is sent to the wrong authority or contains incomplete information, the process starts over. This is one reason why using a professional service saves time. We know the correct ordering procedures for each authority.

Can delivery be expedited?

Authority processing times cannot be influenced. But starting the process quickly is the most important step. The sooner you place the order, the more time remains before the estate inventory deadline.

Practical tip: Sukuselvitys.fi sends orders to all required authorities simultaneously. When doing it yourself, each order is sent separately, which can add several days to the total time.

When will my genealogy report be delivered?

Once we have received all certificates from the authorities, we verify the complete document set to ensure all documents needed for estate inventory and bank processing are included, and deliver the finished report to you. In most cases the report is delivered within 1–2 business days after the last certificate has arrived.

We notify you by email as soon as the report is ready. You can download the documents directly from the email link. No login or separate system is needed.
